1.What a winner this "Q3" is. Fast and accurate acquiring satellite signals, even in my living room. Comes with AC AND DC adapters. My car accessory socket is ignition controlled and turns off when I am out of the car.I have to re-charge it in the house.2.I set up all my "Destinations' and "Favorites" in the house so I love that it has the AC adapter included.

3. It has an SD/MMC slot for playing MP3 music and talk I have on my PC. I transfer to the SD/MMC card and insert it into the "Q3" to listen. It may also play MP3 while navigating but I haven't yet been able to do both at the same time.

4.It fits very nicely into my shirt pocket so I can "Plan n Play" at the coffee shop.

5.Once I learned the "Menu tree" I can get around the menus pretty easily. Since this is my first experience with a GPS device and GPS Navigator I had a bit of a learning curve.

6.It comes with two books, one for the hardware showing how to install it and how to set it up.The other book is primarily for the software. It duplicates much of what is in the hardware book. My "Q3" screens look a lot different from the screens shown in the books. I don't know if my screens are the latest version or if the books show the latest version, but THEY ARE DIFFERENT. This difference made it more difficult to learn how to use it.

7.While just driving around the "Q3" was able to pinpoint my exact location including altitude. It offers North as a fixed display or it offers "heading" with North as it North moves around in relation to your heading. Just a tap on the "compass" toggles back and forth.

8.Displays are included to show 2D, and 3D in variations of perspective and depth. Very nice! It gives a feeling of"horizon" perspective.

9.I found the names of streets and roads were not as the actual street signs showed in many cases. It seems to prefer the US-# or the State Road #'s if known. Many local streets have "City" or "Town" names that are used locally. One US-64 is shown on the "Q3" as 'US64' but the street signs say "Four Seasons Blvd". IF I enter the name of this road, it tells me it doesn't exist. Street number can vary by a block or more in many instances.I suspect this is true of most GPS navigators. Updated maps usually come out every 1-3 years.

10. One point six million "POI's", points of interest still don't include MANY restaurants. etc. Some of our local schools, which are four years old, still are not listed under the included POI's.

11. If the "Q3" will save data to the SD/MMC card I have not found out how. If the "Q3" will download data to the "Q3 Flash Memory" from the SD/MMC card I have not yet found out how to do it.

12. Accessories and upgrades are listed on the NEXTAR website but are still not available online or from the supplier. BUT, I can see the potential of this little guy and I love it's size and accuracy.

14.If I have set a destination and am on the road, if I make a turn different from the Voice Instructed action it IMMEDIATELY RECALCULATED THE NEW PATH! within 10 seconds, and it is always correct in the instructions. Hard-drive based models are very very slow and not very often recalculating it AUTOMATICALLY without asking, Butthe "Q3" does it automatically, instantly!

15.Support gathered from the website is WAY BEHIND AND SLOW if non-existent! These are becoming hard to get because they are so popular they can't keep them on hand for sale. If you want one you'd better grab it NOW!

16. SUMMARY. i don't work for NEXTAR! I bought mine from HSN who is SOLD OUT at this time! It took me a week of many hours to learn what I do know about the "Q3", and suddenly I fell in love with it. If I need to know where I am at any given moment, it tells me, address, city, street, longitude, latitude, and elevation, and CHECK THIS OUT!

The SPEED indicator is more accurate than my speedometer! and it has an alarm that CAN tell me if exceed the speed limit or it I exceed a Preset Speed Limit of my own choosing.



I returned the competitors' GPS Navigators for refund , not accurate, too slow, can't acquire or maintain satellite readings.

(More customer reviews)I'm not sure you could do much better than this for the price. I bought it on sale, more than a little anxious about the quality of the resolution, the touch-screen interface, the accuracy of the GPS, etc. I have been VERY impressed with this unit.

One of the things I like best is its built-in rechargeable battery. This precludes the necessity of having cords hanging all over your dashboard, and is a very nice touch. The battery lasts well over 3 hours on a single charge (I drove for 3.5 hours once on a charge and 25% still remained), and both AC and DC/cigarette lighter adapters are included for charging at home or on the go.

The 3.5" screen is large enough -- and resolution clear enough -- to allow easy reading as well as a good bit of detailed information to be displayed at any one time. The touch screen is easily calibrated and remains quite accurate. Even when typing in letters for a street name, I seldom "fat finger" a virtual button. The display is bright and crisp, and easily readable, even in bright (indirect) sunshine. I use this in a SUV with a sunroof, and also in a car with t-tops and even with the tops out on a sunny day, it's easy to read the display -- and that's not even at its fullest brightness! There is an "auto" setting that will dim the display automatically at night... nice touch. Colors on the display are good and saturated and contrasted appropriately (you can change the overall background or color scheme between four different colors). Viewing can be toggled between a regular view and a "3D" angled-type view in one of three different angles. You can also select whether you want the orientation of the map to be "north" (where north is always up) or "heading" (where the map turns as you drive so you're always moving towards the top of the screen). At any point in map mode, you can "pan" by touching and dragging the map. Very cool.

The flexible holding arm attaches to a cradle and terminates in a rock-solid clampable suction cup. Not once -- even going over rough railroad tracks or off-roading in the Jeep -- has this suction ever broken off my windshield in days and days of continuous attachment. An adhesive-backed disc is also included for dash mounting (you would then suction the arm to the disc). One nice touch is that the GPS unit itself is very easily removed from the cradle... good for security when you're out of your car.

The excellent Navteq software is Windows CE-based.

The GPS signal acquisition takes a couple of minutes from a cold start, less from a warm start (if the unit has been turned off, then turned back on in a short while). I'd call the acquisition time slightly better than average of the GPS units I've used. Once acquired, however, this unit is VERY accurate, typically even locking in signals from 5 or more satellites while indoors. Both the maps and the displayed speed are right on the money, and the turn-by-turn navigation instructions (delivered audibly and visually) are accurate as well. The voice used is smooth and reasonably clear (female voice). You can set the unit to provide all kinds of routes... quickest route, shortest route, routes using or avoiding major roads when possible, routes including ferries or toll roads, routes using or excluding HOV lanes... goodness. When navigating, if you miss a turn, the route is recalculated within a few seconds. You can also look at a route list and avoid a specific road on the list, after which the route will be recalculated.

Points of interest are numerous (1.6 million) and highly usable. There are shortcuts to the more common POIs such as restaurants, ATMs, gas stations, etc. By touching any of these buttons, the display will show you the nearest POIs sorted by distance from your current location. You can also store favorite locations and a "home" location for easy retrieval. Navigation to any of these points, once selected, is as easy as touching one button.

There are some pretty neat ancillary features as well. Of course you can display everything in standard or metric measurements. The GPS info screen shows you the signal strength of each satellite from which a signal is being received as well as your exact latitude and longitude (with a minimum of 3 satellites' signals locked in), altitude (minimum of 4), and speed. I wish you could display the altitude on the main mapping screen, but that's not an option.I'd rather see the altitude there than the time.Perhaps that could be addressed in a firmware update? :)You can set a "speed alert" as well, to warn you if you exceed a preselected speed. You can even choose "auto speed," which uses the type of road you're on to determine the most likely speed limit. Not sure how useful this is, but it's a neat option.

Included in the box are the GPS unit itself (mine came ready-to-go with about a 30% charge), an AC power adapter, a DC car adapter, the windshield suction-mount bracket, a mounting cradle, the dashboard mounting disc, a touch-screen stylus (slides into the upper rear of the GPS unit; I doubt I'll use it much, but there it is), a USB cable, a nice storage pouch, and two owner's guides -- one for the software and one for the hardware. To my surprise (since I didn't read the original description carefully enough), there is also a very nice remote control (with battery) included that duplicates virtually every function of the menu and touch screen on the main unit. It has seven buttons and a four-way circular rocker switch with the typical "OK" button in the middle.I virtually never use the remote, but I suppose it's nice to have, all the same.

A stereo headphone jack is on the right side and allows connection to anything with a 1/8" input jack. I plan on testing this out with my car stereo as it has an auxiliary input jack on the face. I can store hundreds of MP3s on an SD card and away I go! Any navigation audio prompts are played through the car stereo in this set-up, as well.

The user interface is very, very good. The printed user guide isn't necessary at all for basic operation and navigation; however, for some of the more advanced features, the guide is helpful. The MP3 player's interface is wonderful... very intuitive. Loading songs into the playlist is a bit cumbersome, but not overly so, and I didn't buy this to be used as an MP3 player anyway.

The GPS antenna on the rear of the unit swings back and forth, so you can adjust it to improve reception. It also has a jack for an optional external GPS antenna. They thought of everything! Future firmware and mapping updates can be done via either the USB connection (and a computer) or maybe even downloaded onto an SD card.

I can't recommend this unit highly enough. Even at full price ($200) it would be worth it. When it's on sale, though, it becomes an astounding bargain. No buyer's remorse on this product whatsoever!

Nextar X3-03 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator Review

(More customer reviews)The Nextar x3-03 is probably the best buy out there because it does include an a/c and d/c adapter and a cover along with free map upgrades when available - so they claim. The ac adapter is a benefit for outside sales people (real estate agents) so that you can program all your stops before hand. I recently purchase the tomtom and navignon and found them to be very useless especially the navignon because of the voice directions. It gave me about 5 steps when entering and leaving a ramp from the highway and I felt it would be really confusing if I did not know where I was. In addition to that, the navignon for some reason was trying to reroute me down streets I already knew they were dead ends. I return the tomtom and navignon back to staples and kept my Nextar.
The beauty of the nextar is in its simplicity. The prompts are at the right time without added conversation! It is very easy to select your your next location within seconds while at a traffic light - or rather I should say parked in a safe location. Entering address information was much easier than the others because of the simple predictive text which looks up streets as you are typing them in like Pac for pacific - the navigon would pull up wolfpack once you starting typing and that to me was no useful.
If you need a tool, the nextar is it, if you need a toy and graphics and more of what you don't need and less of what you really need, then I would certainly go back and purchase the tomtom and navigon. The sound and graphics are pretty cool.
The downside, I do not believe there is any quality control and be prepared to send a unit or two back. I originally purchased mine at Kmart which has a very good return policy, problem was, their inventory is light and they have been out of them for 6 weeks. So now I have purchased from Amazon because their exchage policy is just as easy.
Be aware that the battery does not last overnight as I believe the unit is always in standby mode even when you thought it was off.
Nextar is very up front about their problems and issues which you can read about in the support section [...]
I hope this helps anyone trying to make a decision. Best bet is to buy all 4 brands from a place you know they can be returned and try them all out for a day to see which one fits your needs.

(More customer reviews)I just bought a Q4 from Nextar a couple of weeks ago from Kmart.It is much cheaper than those GPS from other famous brand.To me, it is very user-friendly.The UI is very simple for me to understand and the navigator gives pretty clear instruction while I am driving, specially on the freeway.When it comes to POI issue,as a person who always checks out the info about the place I want to go online before actually moving out, Q4's 1.6 millions of POIs is enough to fit my emergency needs.Honestly, it is not as great as some of the high class GPS from Garmin or TomTom.But it always takes me to where I wanna be.It is really a fair product with such a low price.
