(More customer reviews)The product description fails to disclose that the battery is LEAD/ACID. In spite of packaging information that states that it's a no-leak battery, I had acid on my counter after the first charge.

To make matters even worse, the fitting attached to the hose that's to be used for valve stems DOES NOT FIT. No matter which position I put the lock lever in, I had to force it over the threads on the stem. This shaves material off the seal in the fitting, leaving debris in the stem. Further, it was impossible to force in on far enough to actually depress the core and pump air into the tire.

I'm a nationally certified automotive master mechanic. It's not that I don't know how to operate these things. . .

(More customer reviews)This is awesome! One drawback, the directions are a little confusing. There are two sets, one in the little pamphlet, another in the form of stickers on the actual product. One says charge 12 hours before using, the other says 48 hours. One says, for jump-starting, connect directly to the battery, the other says connect as you would to another car (red cable to red terminal, black cable to a non-moving metal part of the engine or "ground"). I did it connecting to a ground and that worked. It also said let sit for five minutes before starting your engine, but I tried it right away and that also worked fine.

BUT WAIT, this is the amazing part. I bought this for a relatively crappy car that may or may not have an electrical leak, but it's mostly a secondary car that I don't drive often enough anyway. Within a number of weeks, I have used this thing THREE TIMES without charging.Again, directions say charge immediately after each jump, but THREE TIMES. And the little guage on the side of it STILL says 100% ready charge, and the light still turns on bright and everything....... WOW

Also, you don't have to lug it inside and plug it in to recharge. If you're worried you can plug it in to the cigarette lighter and recharge it while you drive, so it'll be ready next time you park. But again, I did not do this, 3 times WITHOUT charging and still at 100% (Course, I followed the 48 hour instructions, so I started at about 110-115% charge... probably should have mentioned that sooner :p )

Bottom line: works exactly as advertised. Is cheap compared to other brands. Definitely worth every penny.

They did charge me shipping for 25 lbs, even though it actually weighs 15 lbs, but still worth it.

(More customer reviews)I have used this product to inflate bicycle tires successfully on several occasions, used the DC outlet to recharge a GPS, and yesterday my car battery (2000 Honda Civic) went dead so i got a chance to try the jump starter.Worked fine and was able to jump start the car several times.

Downsides to the product: inverter is a little noisy, and the initial charge time to charge this product takes 34 hours from an AC outlet.

Also the inverter switch is not behind a panel the way the other switches are; this would have been useful to have because it means I need to keep the product in its box to prevent the inverter switch from accidentally turning on if the device rolls around in my trunk.

Both units are very rugged and perform very well. I have used them both to start farm tractors, cars, trucks, mowers, a generator, and my Bobcat in winter. The cables and clamps are heavy commercial quality items that store nicely when not in use.The built-in charger works well to quickly charge and maintain the internal batteries. It will jump-start several vehicles between charges. These have really proved invaluable and save me the hassle of getting a truck close in while trying to get the battery side close enough so I can wrestle around with a cold set of jumper cables - what a pain.. I carry one of these on trips, when towing or in bad weather so in an emergency I don't have to rely on the kindness of strangers for a jump-start although I have rescued two damsels in distress and one city guy with a Neon so far. You don't have to worry about smoking the alternator on your truck when jumping an unfamiliar vehicle either. The accessory 12V cigarette lighter-type outlet has actually proven to be a handy "never thought I would use it" feature. The switches are commercial quality and are not flimsy junk like many others.The LED readout actually provides useful information concerning internal battery or vehicle voltage levels or percentage of charge.If you are in the market for a no-nonsense unit, then I can tell you I have been very pleased with both of mine. Two design shortcomings I hoped weren't there, keep it from 5 stars - #1: it charges from either a wall-wart 12V adapter, or from a 12V cigarette lighter plug.I much prefer a direct 120V power cord connection versus the wall adapter variety.#2 shortcoming: it doesn't have a self float-charge cycle - you must limit your charge times manually by unplugging it (battery damage if charged too long).Ach!Still, guess a person could attach his own float-charge unit instead of the supplied 12vdc adapter.But heck, Wagan, design that into it, like the better powerpacks have.

Slime 40001 Power Sport Tire Inflator Review

(More customer reviews)I have been looking for a portable tire inflator I can use for my motorcycle and with the lack of choices, I deicded to give the Slime Tire Inflator a try.The inflator is really small (a little larger than the palm as the picture indicates) and comes with a case that fit all the wires and the unit itself.The unit draws power only from the battery so you can't plug it into a power outlet from your house.You can either draw power with the alligator clip, a pre wired power source (just like the ones from battery tender), or from a cigarette lighter source.Operation is pretty simple too.You just connect the hose to the unit, connect the power cable and draw power from the battery from whatever one of the three above methods and flip the power switch on the unit.

Now the bad... since it's being labeled as a portable inflator, the casing of the unit look very cheap and filmsy.Just like the previous reviewer mentioned, the unit is obnoxiously loud and vibrates like crazy.Finally, it did take almost 5 minutes to inflate my motorcycle tire from 20 to 30psi so I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone trying it on much larger car tires.The owners manual did say that users should not use the unit for more than 8 minutes at a time which I assume wouldn't even be sufficient to add 5 psi of air into a car tire.

Overall, I think the product does a good job of inflating small tires on the go but I am very concerned about its useable life.With the way the unit vibrates while inflating tires and the filmsy looking case, I would not place much confidence on it to last forever.However, if you own a motorycle/ATV and need an inflator on the go, I would suggest this productsince a few tube of air catridges cost just as much as this.

(More customer reviews)I've owned two other tire inflators: both Craftsman.Both were as loud as a jackhammer and caused a massive racket when in use.And they were quite slow in inflating my car tires so the racket went on for longer than I desired.The primary features I wanted in a new unit was low noise output and an ability to inflate my 20" SUV tires.Wow! does this unit deliver!I plugged it in one of my car power outlets and turned it on in my enclosed garage. I know the noise was not noticeable to my townhouse neighbors.And the inflation is much faster: with my Craftsman, I would settle in for the wait to inflate 5psi, turn on the radio and check the gauge every few minutes.With this one, I had to watch the gauge closely to ensure I did not over-inflate within 1 minute.(According to the claim on the box, it will inflate a 14" tire from 0-28psi in under 2:30 seconds.)

What you get:

* 16-ft PVC air hose w/ quick connect cabling (much like most Craftsman air compressors);
* 10-ft power cord with a 15 amp fuse (this length, plus that of the air hose, should be plenty long enough for most folks);
* Built-in analog pressure gauge (above 30 psi, it displays 2psi increments up to 150psi);
* 4 LED lights built into the inflator (the lamp has a separate on/off switch from the inflator)

She was readying the car for a long road trip and by accident left the car on.Battery was quite dead.We own a Prius and one of the quirks is that if the car is jumped with too much power it resets the computer and the windows don't work right.We experienced that a few years ago when a friend jumped our car.

The Wagan was fresh out of the box (we had only gotten it the day before).Fully charged and ready to go.I went outside, hooked up the Wagan to the two posts in the fuse box and we started the car.Less than five minutes from learning the car battery was dead to having it run again.That was because I had to go in the house and get the charger...

Suffice to say, the Wagan is kept in the car all the time-even when space is a premium.We know that if we get a flat, the unit can inflate the tire long enough to get to safety.
The flashlight is bright and even though as the other reviewer states the doors are flimsy, but we are not rough with it.
We haven't used it as such but it will power lights for a few hours while car camping.
It can be used for charging any electrical devices or even running a shaver!They thought of everything and if there is any deficiency, it is that there's almost too much to use it for.

We like this mobile power unit and recommend it to anyone owning a vehicle dependent on electricity to start.

Bottom Line:

WE FEEL MUCH SAFER WITH THE WAGAN ALONG!

(More customer reviews)I'd purchased a Black & DEcker Starter earlier this year from Amazon and it was a piece of junk. It NEVER worked; left my 16-yr old daughter stranded twice. This Duracell, however, lived up to its reputation: the air compressor is a very nice added bonus. If there is a downside, it is it takes a very long time to recharge (often overnight). It will recharge from the car's cigarette lighter outlet while the car's running, so this is a minor quibble.

Duracell DJUMP-17 Instant Jumpstart System Review

(More customer reviews)I was about to buy this jumpstart system from amazon and noticed that Target had it instore for around $15 cheaper (look at more buying options to the right of your screen and find it instore if the store is in your area).

Things to note before you decide to go buy the jumpstart system.

1. Look at the cranking AMPs (ampere is quantity of electric charge). You want to look for something above 400 AMPs , this Duracell has about 400 AMPs. I personally prefer LOOKING at my battery in my car and getting a jumpstart system with around the same crank amps as my batteries CCA( cold crank amps) at 0 F, the battery has this rating on it. Note: The more the amps the more your pay.
Do not look at the peak AMPs rating, those are manufacture ratings so rather useless.

2. Avoid all the bells and whistles, trust me, just go for what you buying, a jumpstart system. Okay may be a polarity reversal alarm and a flash light on it and a 12 volts cigarette connector.

3. Differentiate between a battery charger and a jump starter. Read what you are getting.

4. What car are you buying it for? SUV (V8) need more power than four cylinders(smaller cars). Again do not go for a 300 amp jumpstart system on a SUV, you setting yourself for disappointment, spend a little more, feel more comfortable.

5. AC charger for this jumpstart system comes is 13.8 Vdc, 400 mA. Do not use anything else to charge it, this is because you cause fluctuations to your jumpstart system, thus messing it up, so keep your AC charger safe, that is do not misplace it.

6. Jumpstart systems are not buy and forget systems, take care of it it will take care of you. I bought this jumpstart system and left it my car for a week in temps that were 0 F to 10 F, the cables froze and cracked, had to get a new one, wish the cables were more rubber than plastic. The cables couldn't withstand the low temps, that is why I am rating it a 4/5.

All in all, it is a decent system but will not start a dead battery ( I prefer looking for one that can start a dead battery next time) and it will not withstand high or low temps.Best setting 32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal.

Charge is once a month, test it regularly, let it charge for 48 hours when you get it and charge it after use, do not leave it in your trunk!

(More customer reviews)This the Big Mack Daddy for sure!I was weary after looking at many many choices, but finally chose this one because of features and reviews - hoping I wouldn't be disappointed when it arrived.And I wasn't! I didn't have the ON/OFF switch on the jumpstarter on previous units, and really like this feature.You can hook up the cables on your battery, and get a confirmation that the cables are connected correctly (LED lights) without any power on the cables - then switch on the power after you're sure all is connected correctly.And the unit has plenty of power to start any but the largest of engines.The built-in LED light is powerful and lights everything under the hood or around the car.The unit is also perfect for usage in the home during storms/power outages with an inverter to power small AC appliances, as well as a DC outlet, and a USB outlet as well.With an AC power strip and a multi-port DC splitter you can power (or charge) several units at once.

I love the fact that it can be left plugged in perpetually
and will take care of itself. I'm not mechanically inclined
so the less I need to do the better.

The only complaint I have about it is that it doesn't come
with a cord to plug into the wall. You have to get a heavy
duty extension cord to connect it to the wall, and they
never tell you that when you are reading the product
description. For the price of this item, I think it should
come with a simple short extension cord.

(More customer reviews)This unit should provide the capacity needed to jump start most cars.However, there are a few things to note:

1. This unit does not have an automatic float charging system. This means you can't just leave it plugged in & expect it to maintain a full charge. Instead, you must periodically unplug it and replug it in (at least every few months). If you forget, you will not only not have a charged unit when you need it, but, the battery can become damaged as well if left to fully discharge. Chargers costing as little as $20 have this feature; There's no reason to exclude it on a unit like this.

2. This unit does not include a power cord.Instead, you will need to use an extension cord; it needs to be a single dongle version because of the design of the unit.

3. This unit does not include a storage compartment.Not a big deal, but, if you have some accessories you want to tote (like a power cord or inflation needle), you won't have a convenient place to store it.

I've also had two PowerStation units.One died within a year and the other still works (I think).Time will tell how the Stanley stacks up.
