(More customer reviews)I have used this product to inflate bicycle tires successfully on several occasions, used the DC outlet to recharge a GPS, and yesterday my car battery (2000 Honda Civic) went dead so i got a chance to try the jump starter.Worked fine and was able to jump start the car several times.

Downsides to the product: inverter is a little noisy, and the initial charge time to charge this product takes 34 hours from an AC outlet.

Also the inverter switch is not behind a panel the way the other switches are; this would have been useful to have because it means I need to keep the product in its box to prevent the inverter switch from accidentally turning on if the device rolls around in my trunk.

(More customer reviews)I thought this charger was the greatest thing around the first couple of times I used it.Now, less than a year after I purchased it, it won't charge the battery.The battery meter shows that is has about a half charge (12.5 volts) but there isn't enough juice to turn over a VW beetle.I tried to plug it in to recharge it but it is not taking a charge.It looks and feels very durable.The compressor worked fine yesterday but the internal battery in the unit won't charge.Seems like I'm not the first with this problem.

(More customer reviews)This model is a recent purchase and I also have one 12V only model (3600) that I purchased two years ago.I own two farms and several vehicles and various farm equipment. Both units are very rugged and perform very well. I have used them both to start farm tractors, cars, trucks, mowers, a generator, and my Bobcat in winter. The cables and clamps are heavy commercial quality items that store nicely when not in use.The built-in charger works well to quickly charge and maintain the internal batteries. It will jump-start several vehicles between charges. These have really proved invaluable and save me the hassle of getting a truck close in while trying to get the battery side close enough so I can wrestle around with a cold set of jumper cables - what a pain.. I carry one of these on trips, when towing or in bad weather so in an emergency I don't have to rely on the kindness of strangers for a jump-start although I have rescued two damsels in distress and one city guy with a Neon so far. You don't have to worry about smoking the alternator on your truck when jumping an unfamiliar vehicle either. The accessory 12V cigarette lighter-type outlet has actually proven to be a handy "never thought I would use it" feature. The switches are commercial quality and are not flimsy junk like many others.The LED readout actually provides useful information concerning internal battery or vehicle voltage levels or percentage of charge.If you are in the market for a no-nonsense unit, then I can tell you I have been very pleased with both of mine. You can rest assured that you will get what you pay for. Ladies, these would make a great gift for your busy guy. Just make sure it's big enough for his equipment. Two design shortcomings I hoped weren't there, keep it from 5 stars - #1: it charges from either a wall-wart 12V adapter, or from a 12V cigarette lighter plug.I much prefer a direct 120V power cord connection versus the wall adapter variety.#2 shortcoming: it doesn't have a self float-charge cycle - you must limit your charge times manually by unplugging it (battery damage if charged too long).Ach!Still, guess a person could attach his own float-charge unit instead of the supplied 12vdc adapter.But heck, Wagan, design that into it, like the better powerpacks have.

(More customer reviews)If you need a powerful jump starter with the capability to be an alternate power source for 12 VDC products this is it.It is a little large but If you want to run a portable cooler or similar device for nearly 8 hours at a shot this is the best with 32 amp hours of reserve power.We used it to power our cooler and keep our food cold and milk fresh when our car was parked and we were touring various sights on a 6000 mile 22 day adventure vacation.We would power the cooler from the car when we were driving but to avoid draining the car battery down when the car was parked we would use the Jump-N-Carry.At night in the hotel rooms we would recharge the Jump-N-Carry and power the cooler from AC.We paid for the price of the Jump Start with the left over restaurant food we saved in the cooler to eat later. This product will be with us for a long time for a supplemental 12 VDC supply and as an emergency jump start unit.The Jump-N-Carry is really great product.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this from Amazon on a whim during a lightening sale.My wife was understandably skeptical, as it appeared I had bought an expensive radio/tire pump.

She was readying the car for a long road trip and by accident left the car on.Battery was quite dead.We own a Prius and one of the quirks is that if the car is jumped with too much power it resets the computer and the windows don't work right.We experienced that a few years ago when a friend jumped our car.

The Wagan was fresh out of the box (we had only gotten it the day before).Fully charged and ready to go.I went outside, hooked up the Wagan to the two posts in the fuse box and we started the car.Less than five minutes from learning the car battery was dead to having it run again.That was because I had to go in the house and get the charger...

Suffice to say, the Wagan is kept in the car all the time-even when space is a premium.We know that if we get a flat, the unit can inflate the tire long enough to get to safety.
The flashlight is bright and even though as the other reviewer states the doors are flimsy, but we are not rough with it.
We haven't used it as such but it will power lights for a few hours while car camping.
It can be used for charging any electrical devices or even running a shaver!They thought of everything and if there is any deficiency, it is that there's almost too much to use it for.

We like this mobile power unit and recommend it to anyone owning a vehicle dependent on electricity to start.

Bottom Line:

WE FEEL MUCH SAFER WITH THE WAGAN ALONG!

(More customer reviews)These units exceeded my expectations. They are dead easy to charge as you just plug an extension cord into the side of the unit (why didn't anyone else think of that). A clear digital indicator tells you the status of the charge. It even has a small cooling fan that runs during charging. We use these units for operating 12 VDC instruments in the field so we want a unit that will, at least, last all day. The jury is still out on this since few have been used yet but expectations are high.

This Duracell, however, lived up to its reputation: the air compressor is a very nice added bonus. If there is a downside, it is it takes a very long time to recharge (often overnight). It will recharge from the car's cigarette lighter outlet while the car's running, so this is a minor quibble.

Rather than wait in the dark for who knows how long for roadside service, we took the Mini-Jumper out of the trunk, clicked on the flash light, raised the hood, hooked it up, charged up the battery in seconds and were on our way! The kids didn't even notice we were having a "situation." We've also used the Mini-jumper after a hurricane to charge our cell phones and for portable power. It's great!

I have two marine batteries on my boat, but I bought this product for emergency back-up while on the open water. Keep in mind that I only use this product down below in a constant dry area of the sailboat's cabin (away from water) for safety reasons.I really didn't buy it for the jump starter or the USB Port, but if needed, I will be glad to have them. Since I didn't buy it primarily for the jump starter, I was glad to see that the jumper cables were detachable when not in use. I selected this product based on three factors: price, power and options. I saw this same product at Wal-mart for a more expensive pricetag (plus tax). Also, the free shipping from Amazon was fantastic: it is rather heavy, so to get free shipping on such a heavy product was a plus . The features are great. I get two AC and two DC power outlets. Having the two power options (AC or DC) is awesome. When I'm out on my boat, I can plug in a portable DVD player, charge/power up my phone and portable VHF in emergencies, and listen to the radio or weatherband all at the same time! I've used the radio (which gets good reception) and the light (more of a narrow spotlight for finding close objects). It seems to hold a charge for day and overnight sailing trips (for my light uses). Oh, a small blower kicks on when the 120V AC switch is turned on and the 12V DC outlets are rated for 5A max. each. Overall, I am quitehappy with this product. I can also see it useful for road trips and camping trips too! Oh, I almost forgot...you will need to buy a grounded extension cord to charge it, or you can use the included 12V charger (but that seems like it may take a long time to get a full charge from a drained battery).

UPDATE: Now that Amazon.com does not ship this item from its' warehouse, you as a consumer ARE NOT eligible for free shipping. It may now be cheaper buying it at your local Wal-mart. Do your research before buying!

I love the fact that it can be left plugged in perpetually
and will take care of itself. I'm not mechanically inclined
so the less I need to do the better.

The only complaint I have about it is that it doesn't come
with a cord to plug into the wall. You have to get a heavy
duty extension cord to connect it to the wall, and they
never tell you that when you are reading the product
description. For the price of this item, I think it should
come with a simple short extension cord.

(More customer reviews)If you can't start your car or truck with this thing, you have bigger problems than a dead battery! This unit is one of the most powerful portable battery jumpers out there at 1700 peak amps. That's almost twice as powerful as many other lower quality competitors.

This is not a "multi-purpose" unit that you will find at the local big box store. It's not an air compressor, radio, flashlight, food processor and battery jumper. It's only a battery jumper, although it does have a "cigarette-lighter" style socket to power other items if needed.

This is a great product, but consider this before you buy it: This model may not be for everyone. This is a professional grade item and is not intended to be used by people unfamiliar with proper battery jumping procedures. Here's why I say this:

1. Some battery jumping devices have a feature that will alert you if you hook the jumper cables up incorrectly.This unit has no such feature.

2. Some have safety switches that remove power to the cables while you are hooking them up. This unit has no such switch.

3. Some battery jumpers have sophisticated chargers that won't allow you to overcharge the battery.Not this one.When you plug it in to recharge it, you can't just walk away for 2 days and let it charge.You have to monitor it during the recharging process.

4. Some battery jumpers have a set of generic lights to tell you the current state of charge of the booster box.Not this one.It has a voltmeter on the front and you need to know how to read it.

Now, none of these items is THAT big of a deal, but I thought it was worth mentioning. If you aren't familiar with how to properly jump-start a car, you may be better off with another model with more "dummy-proof" features.

One last comment: This Jump n Carry comes with a redeemable certificate for a one-time replacement unit. If (for ANY reason) this unit stops working during its lifetime, you send it back to the company with the certificate (along with $50) and they will repair or replace it, no questions asked. Not a bad deal!

Bottom Line: If you need the most power in a single-purpose jumper box, buy this one!
