(More customer reviews)I had heard good things about the LiquidFM and decided to give it a shot. I fully know that FM transmitters are a last option, bu there were a number of problems with this transmitter.

First and foremost, it will NOT charge my 30gb Zune. The Zune has been known to be particular with what USB ports it will charge from, but I would at least expect them to test the major MP3 brands.

Secondly, the cord is too short. The reason this is a problem is because the cord is used as the antenna for the transmitter. If the cord were longer, it would be more powerful, and you would be able to place the cord in a better place. The device works best in my car when I loop the antenna over my rear view mirror, maximizing the cord and significantly boosting the signal.

Finally, the device does not always pick the clearest frequency. I would often find it had picked a station with clear audio playing, rather than one with mostly static. I know this isn't a perfect science, but sometimes the difference was drastic.

I expected more out of this device. Despite all the claims, this is just another FM transmitter which does not live up to the supposed features.

Archos Car Power Adapter (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a truly awful design and not at all what one would expect from a great innovator like Archos.First of all, the connector does not fit securely into the device socket.This causes two problems:1) You have to jiggle the connector until the display indicates that power is actually being received and 2) Once you actually are receiving power, you must position it so that it won't jiggle further, lest you lose power--very difficult to do in a moving vehicle!Secondly, the cable is made of really flimsy materials and doesn't seem likely to survive very many uses.Finally, it doesn't charge while the device is in use, so you will still have to plug it in when you get to your destination, defeating the benefit of such a great portable device.

DieHard 71222 Fully-Automatic Battery Charger / Engine Starter for 12- Review

(More customer reviews)This is listed as a "fully automatic" car battery charger, which means that if you select a charge amperage it's supposed to automatically maintain that charge amperage.

However, "fully automatic" does NOT mean this is a Battery Maintainer. This does NOT have Float-Mode Monitoring. You cannot just connect this to your car battery and forget it because if you do, pretty soon this will completely destroy your battery.

If you do not disconnect this charger after your battery is fully-charged, it will overcharge your car battery which will reduce it's capacity and eventually ruin it permanently. You need to read the manual carefully to figure this out and you need to connect a separate battery meter to determine if the battery is fully charged.

You can safely ignore the meter on the front because it's useless. With a fully dead battery, the meter will show as fully charged.

This is O.K. for a brute-force charging but the phrase "fully automatic" in the title is very deceptive. There are much better car battery chargers out there for less money that will keep your battery healthy.

(More customer reviews)This powerpack pretty much works as advertised.The coolest thing is the builtin 400 Watt inverter which allows you plug in almost any AC powered device.Great for emergency power or just portable camping power!Unit charges quickly using the supplied DC adapter or in about a day using the supplied AC adapter.
The only drawback is that the builtin air compressor isn't fan cooled so it can only operate about 10-15 minutes at a time before it over heats and air flow could be higher.Another option would be to plug in a high flow, heavy duty air compressor into the builtin 12V outlet or inverter.

(More customer reviews)I almost didn't buy this because of the 1-star reviews -- but then I noticed those reviewers were just ignorant. (Uninformed Amazon reviewers?!, gosh what a shock...). I used a fuse tap to install an always-on 12V cigarette lighter adapter in my SUV for this panel. The low voltage trickle is enough to keep my battery topped off indefinitely, even after 2 and 3 weeks of just sitting in the driveway (whereas my battery would sometimes be almost dead after sitting for a week). Almost bought the 5-watt unit for twice as much, but this is half the size and turned out to work just fine.

Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter Review

(More customer reviews)The Coby-745 is in my opinion, the all-around best buy in the wireless FM car transmitter market. At $17.99 on Amazon, it is roughly half the price of most of it's competitors, but what's amazing is that it provides additional features! The cap on the built in car charger flips off to reveal a spot for another charging plug (like for a cell phone for example). The springs hold the device in tightly while in use and the charger unit is hinged to the transmitter, providing for a 360 degree+ rotation of the unit. The light up screen in blue shows the full frequency channels you can select from with the lighted dial, in increments of 0.1 MHz.

This unit doesn't just look pretty and have nice features, it also performs extremely well. On a 40 minute commute through back roads, highway and city, the unit didn't lose signal once and I heard ZERO interference, yes, that's right, none! Compare that to other reviews.

Downsides? All the downsides are common to most other transmitters: it doesn't have an on/off button, so you have to unplug the unit if you want it to stop drawing power. To get the sound just right, you have to crank the treble on your car stereo a tad (although this just may be a personal preference). And, you have to crank the volume on your mp3 player and/or stereo (and remember to turn the volumes back down when you use your stereo or mp3 player without the transmitter or else risk blowing out your eardrums). There was some static noise when handling the unit initially although I found this went away quickly as the static charge (coming from the user) dispersed.

The sound quality amazes me- very near CD quality sound- and I was very pleased there was no interference- in the 40 minutes driving, I never had to switch channels. As long as it holds up, I don't plan on switching transmitters anytime soon either. The Coby-745 rocks.

Sunforce 50032 15 Watt Solar Battery Charger Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased 6 of these for a backup system for my home. Two Northern units and 4 Sunforce units all 15 watt. ( these are the exact same units btw, northern's are cheaper). With two inverters, a 2500 watt, and a 300 watt pure sinewave for computers and such. Hooked through a 7 amp charge controller to a pair of 110 amp hour deep cells in parallel for a total of 220 amp hr's.

I first hooked two panels up to see how they did, they worked well in very low light but couldn't ever get the batteries to "full" on the controller. I then hooked up a third panel and that gave enough to bring the batteries to full after a full day. With six panels hooked up, it will bring the batteries to "full" in a very few hours from a 30% drained condition.

These units are less then optimally placed and rarely get full sun, but do very well even without that. Two panels in full sun may very well have been able to bring the batteries to "full" but location is a problem for me. One other product of note is the P3 international "Kill A Watt" electrical useage meter. Doing a survey of electrical useage in my house to get ready for this project was an eye opener to say the least.

Great panels, at a good price, that do what you pay for...all you can ask for.

(More customer reviews)When I got my Tom Tom One, there was a quick start guide that was to say the least inadequite.One of the things they left out was the fact that you can charge your Tom Tom using the USB cable connected to your computer.Insted they have a stern warning in their quick start guide suggesting you spend 30 bucks more to buy the Charger.The Charger works fine, but I don't think much of Tom Tom's business ethics in not including detailed information about their product when the consumer purchases it so you don't end up spending money on things you really don't need.For that reason, I wouldn't give Tom Tom any stars.

Duracell D2A 2 AMP 12V Battery Maintainer / Charger Review

(More customer reviews)I wanted a charger to keep my car battery charged (but not overcharged!) while I am absent on multi-week trips.So far the Duracell 2 Amp charger seems to be working well.

It is a three-stage charger.The specification says that depending on the current state of the battery, it will do a fast charge to around 80%, then a slower charge to almost full, then finally move to a lower voltage "floating" charge to keep the battery near 100% without overcharging.

I used a multimeter to watch the charging process.My battery was mostly full to start with, so the charger started charging at 14.1 volts (the slow charge mode) and then after a few hours moved to 12.7 volts (for the floating charge).These both seem appropriate voltages.In particular, the floating voltage of 12.7 volts should be safe for long-term battery maintenance.

After about two days on floating charge, my charger's red charging light finally went off.Over the next couple of weeks, when I checked the charger, the red charging light was mostly off but I occasionally noticed it on.It looks like the charger is moving between off and floating charge as needed for sustained maintenance.

I'll have to see how the charger holds up under long-term use, but so far everything looks good.

Update November 2009: I've been using this for over a year now and I continue to be very happy with it.It's pleasant to come back from a four week absence to a fully charged car battery, with zero hassles!
